Laurie Hathaway Wang, Vivino
What did you study at Harvard?
I earned my MBA at Harvard Business School, Class of 2016.
Were you involved with any food or wine activities while a student?
I was in the HBS Wine & Cuisine society, and certainly took advantage of the food scene around Cambridge and Boston.
Do you think that Harvard has prepared you for a career in food and wine or hospitality in general? If so, how?
Harvard taught me about applying technology, data, and marketplace concepts to create "disruptive innovation", and that's exactly what we're doing at Vivino. It also taught me the value of building relationships across geographies, cultures and industries, which is incredibly useful not only in the wine industry, but in all aspects of life!
What work do you do now?
I'm currently running partnerships at Vivino, the world's largest online wine marketplace, powered by a community of 30 million wine drinkers. Through the Vivino app and website, we enable users to discover and purchase wine based on their individual scanning, rating and purchase behavior and community recommendations, making wine discovery fun, accessible, and easy to understand for wine drinkers of every level of expertise.
